Oral Sedation

Oral Sedation Helps Relieve Dental Anxiety

Oral sedation in Brantford has been shown as an effective method of conscious sedation for most adults who are in good health. There are several safe and widely prescribed medications available to dentists today. We will give you a prescription for one of these medications, to take before you come in for your appointment.

Oral sedation provides a little more sedative effect than nitrous oxide and a little less than IV sedation. You will need to discuss with your dentist whether oral sedation will offer you the level of comfort you need to undergo a dental procedure.

You may want to consider oral sedation if you are in good health and:

  • Your anxiety is enough to make you hesitate to visit your dentist.
  • You are in pain (whether it’s toothache or pain in the jaw, back or neck) prior to your visit.
  • You are afraid of needles.

If you are planning to get substantial dental work done in one appointment, oral sedation will keep you comfortably relaxed throughout a longer appointment.

Is Oral Sedation Safe?

Oral sedatives for dental procedures have been shown to be both safe and effective. Our dental teams are well trained in sedation techniques as well as safety and emergency procedures. We will monitor your heart rate and blood pressure from the time you come in for your appointment until you are ready to be driven home.
