Appearances have always been tied to success and today, more and more individuals have access to health care treatments that improve personal aesthetics along with self-esteem. When it comes to dentistry, one of the most accessible dental treatments is bonding and veneers. According to the Canadian Dental Association, veneers are applied to the entire front surface of a tooth, whereas bonding is applied to a smaller portion of the tooth, improving the look of healthy teeth and giving you more confidence.
At Dentistry Plus our priority is providing affordable oral health care in a caring, family-friendly atmosphere. Open weekdays, evenings, and weekends Dentistry Plus offers a range of services – general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, braces, dentures, and implants – to help you look and feel your best, including veneers.
Veneers are very thin shells that are attached to the front part of teeth. They are often made of porcelain or composite resin. Veneers offer a conservative approach to changing a tooth’s color and shape, offering a stronger, more aesthetic alternative over the more involved procedure of crowns. Veneers offer the following advantages:
- They provide a natural tooth appearance.
- Gum tissue tolerates porcelain well.
- Porcelain veneers are stain resistant.
- The color of a porcelain veneer can be selected such that it makes dark teeth appear whiter.
Veneers are routinely used to fix:
- Teeth that are discolored - because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth.
- Teeth that are worn down, chipped or broken.
- Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, irregularly shaped, or with gaps between them (to close the space between these teeth).
Porcelain veneers will require at least two visits. First to remove a thin layer of the enamel from your teeth to make room for the veneers. Then your dentist makes a mold of your teeth which is used to custom-make your porcelain veneers. Temporary veneers are worn until your porcelain veneers are ready. On your next visit, your dentist removes the temporary veneers and the porcelain veneers are then glued to your teeth one by one, using composite resin cement. Once you have veneers, you cannot reverse the treatment because part of your enamel has been removed. And just like your natural teeth, your veneered tooth needs to be brushed and flossed daily.
